The Other Side of the Street is a grounded, emotional short film about a young boy growing up in a rough neighborhood who is constantly judged and limited by stereotypes tied to where he’s from. As he struggles to access opportunities others take for granted, every attempt to do the right thing seems to fall short. Pulled between staying on track and the temptation to return to the streets where survival feels familiar, he fights daily to choose a different path. Surrounded by chaos, conflict, and unfair treatment, the film explores how environment shapes identity, how judgment can close doors before they’re opened, and how perseverance becomes an act of resistance in a world quick to define you.
The Other Side of the Street is scheduled to compete in 5+ film festivals and will premiere in a real movie theater in Dallas in 2026.
ABOUT Jaylon
Jaylon Monroe is an upcoming film director and visual storyteller focused on creating realistic, heartfelt stories that shift perspectives and reflect life as it truly is.
Jaylon is intentional about creating sets that feel fun, open, and alive. While he takes the work seriously, he doesn’t believe creativity thrives in tense or overly rigid environments. Known for his humor, laid-back energy, and personal style expressed through how he dresses and presents himself he builds an atmosphere where people feel comfortable, collaborative, and excited to create. For Jaylon, the best work happens when the environment is enjoyable and everyone feels free to be themselves.
Before filmmaking, Jaylon’s foundation was built through sports. A former collegiate athlete, he earned over $1 million in full athletic scholarships and received a full scholarship to Tulane University, where he graduated with a degree in kinesiology while making the Dean’s List. As a four year starter and team captain, he later spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and the New Orleans Saints experiences that shaped his discipline, leadership, and resilience.
After transitioning away from football, Jaylon found his true passion behind the camera telling stories that don’t rely on glamorization, but honesty. Stories rooted in real people, real struggles, and real choices. His work explores the tension between paths in life, the moments that define character, and the quiet truths often left untold.
In 2023, Jaylon founded Sh9ts Media, a video production company specializing in commercial and brand-driven storytelling. Through Sh9ts Media, he has collaborated with businesses, organizations, and creatives to produce cinematic content that connects emotionally and communicates with purpose.
Today, Jaylon continues to expand his voice as a director through narrative filmmaking, developing original films that reflect perspective, depth, and authenticity. He remains grateful for every opportunity to create, to collaborate, and to serve through storytelling giving all glory to God.
